College of pharmaceutical sciences

College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Government Medical College, Kozhikode established in 1967 is a pioneer institute in government sector imparting diploma, under graduate and post graduate programmes in Pharmaceutical sciences. This is the first Institution in Kerala to start formal Pharmaceutical education. The College provides quality education and an environment conducive to scientific learning and overall development of students.

The institution adheres to all quality measures in terms of imparting education to its students. Many of the students of College of Pharmaceutical Sciences get GPAT scholarships with top ranks for pursuing higher education.

COURSES OFFERED

Diploma in Pharmacy (D Pharm): The D Pharm course was started in the year 1967. It is a two year course under Directorate of Medical Education, Kerala and approved by Pharmacy Council of India. The admission is offered for 50 students per year. The qualification for admission is plus two in science or mathematics stream.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm): It is a 4 year bachelor’s degree course in Pharmacy established in the year 2000 and affiliated to Kerala university of Health Sciences and approved by Pharmacy Council of India and AICTE. The course is presently under semester system with 8 semesters. The admission process is through KEAM entrance conducted by Government of Kerala. In this course the students study about drugs and medicines, manufacturing of drugs, Pharmaceutical analysis, Pharmacology, Phytochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacy Practice etc. This course provides job opportunities in both public and private sectors including Drugs control, Government drug testing laboratories, Hospital and Community Pharmacies, Pharmaceutical industries, research laboratories, clinical research organisations etc.

Master of Pharmacy (M Pharm): M Pharm course in this Institution started in the year 2008, offering postgraduate programmes in two specialties (Pharmaceutics and Pharmacy practice).The intake is 10 students per year under each specialty. The course is presently under semester system having 4 semesters. The admission process is through All India GPAT examination.M Pharm Pharmaceutics course mainly focus on drug formulation research and development. The M Pharm Pharmacy practice focuses on Pharmaceutical services to patients including patient counseling, clinical and hospital pharmacy services etc.

FACILITIES OFFERED UNDER THE DEPARTMENT.

The Powder dilution Unit offers service to pediatric population by providing pediatric dose preparations not available in the market by diluting adult dose preparations. The College also formulates preparations not available in the market as per the needs of other Departments/Colleges in the campus. The Quality Assurance Laboratory inaugurated in the year 2015, does random sampling and analysis of Pharmaceutical Products distributed in Govt Medical College, Kozhikode. Post Graduate students of the institution provide information on Drug and drug related matters to patients through Patient Counselling.
